Can I get a pie any day of the week?
As a small, hyper-seasonal/local business, pies aren’t available every day of the week. Pies are available on Saturdays + Sundays at MAGPIES (pre-order is recommended, though I always make extras for walk-ins!) and at Montgomery Place Orchards in Red Hook Friday 12-5 (pre-order and walk-in). Fresh pies hit the farm stand outside the shop whenever we have them available—there’s an honor box for cash and a Venmo option—for your conveience—but those are catch-as-catch can! You can also nab pies every Wednesday at the Delhi Farmer’s Market mid June-Labor Day, at at a few shops in the area May-October: Kitchen Cheetah in Margaretville, Good Cheap Food in Delhi, Good Grocer in Roxbury, and MX Morningstar (fresh pies are delivered to retailers once a month, usually around a holiday, in the wintertime).
Can I get a peach pie any week of the year?
I let the seasons and what is freshest dictate my menus. Two or three seasonal flavors are on our menu at a time, and that menu changes week to week. You can always expect some kind of local fruit pie, as well as a creamy/custardy pie made with local eggs and dairy!
Do you take custom orders?
The short answer here is: when I can!
June, July, and August are too busy for custom orders—but try me in the fall, winter, or spring, and I just may have the capacity! A week’s notice is always appreciated for a custom order—you are welcome to reach out to me here with questions or requests! Head to the CATERING tab to start a conversation about weddings and other large events.
Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?
Here at Magpies, I am a big believer in leaning into the old-school art of pie-making (i.e. LOTS of butter and flour). I always try my best to get creative around dietary restrictions--but it's best to contact me with special requests. There is gluten, nuts of all kinds, and dairy in my bakery—so legally, I can’t ever guarantee that anything is “nut-free” for example.
Where do you get your ingredients?
I try to get everything very locally. The Catskills are teeming with growers and producers, and I take great pride in forming these relationships with my neighbors who nourish us all! Dairy, fruit, much of the meat, eggs, honey, maple syrup--it all comes from a farmer I know within 100 miles of the bakery!
Do you ship pies?
Unfortunately, it is crazy expensive to ship pies, and the delicate (and drippy!) nature of the pies I bake makes it too risky for them to get bonked around the back of a FedEx truck. (And the good news is, if you really get desperate, The Catskills are a pretty darn dreamy place to visit.....) But I sure hope to figure shipping out one day!
